About our bushland reserves
The City of Armadale has more than 115 bushland reserves (comprising 1,080 ha). Beautiful and diverse bushland areas range from Marri-Jarrah-dominated woodlands on the Darling Scarp to Banksia woodlands on the Swan Coastal Plain.
The City's conservation of bushland reserves enables the community to connect with nature and, in doing so provides many health and well-being benefits now and for future generations. Our bushland reserves enhance the landscape character of the City of Armadale whilst also providing valuable habitat for a wide variety of fauna species.
We are fortunate to have such a diverse range of bushland reserves within the City of Armadale, many of which feature unique walking trail experiences. These natural areas are rich in plant diversity and provide habitat for native fauna.
Local Bushcare groups/friends groups, like the Armadale Gosnell's Landcare Group (AGLG), work closely with the City's Bushland Crew and Environment and Sustainability team, helping to manage our diverse bushland.
Managing our bushland reserves
The City's Bushcare Team manages and monitors many of our bushland reserves. We spend most of our time on:
Weed control and encouraging natural regeneration of bushland
Revegetation
Vegetation mapping
Rubbish collection
Seed collection
Fauna and flora monitoring
Dieback monitoring and management
Infrastructure maintenance
Supporting environmental volunteers and friends' groups
Managing bushfire risk
Monitoring and management of feral animal species, e.g. pigs, foxes, goats
Capital project delivery
Managing projects and planning for the future
Management plans
The City has prepared a number of management plans to inform the treatment of natural areas. The aim of each management plan is to provide a transparent and consistent approach to environmental management within the City. Environmental Management Plans are in place for a number of our reserves to help guide how the City manages these.
How can I get involved?
We must continue to manage our bushland reserves well. Bushcare Volunteers make a valuable contribution towards the conservation and management of biodiversity. The City is committed to supporting Bushcare Volunteers to achieve agreed goals for the preservation and improvement of natural areas through the provision of support and advice.
